We are big fans of the folks over at The Single Cask, not just because they are great people, but because they have bottled some exceptional whiskies to date, and this Caol Ila is definitely one of those.
This Caol Ila whisky was distilled in 2013 and matured in a single hogshead #311895. It was bottled 6 years later in 2020 at a cask strength of 59.1% and with a yield of just 313 bottles.
We can't get enough of indie bottlings of Caol Ila, there are some real gems out there at the moment.

Nose: Bright and youthful with its core Islay character shining through. Peat and smoke; sea salt and shells; oak and vanilla; cinnamon and green tea. Palate: Sea salt and shells from the ocean, meet bacon smoked over peat from the land. Further notes of cinnamon and green tea, with the oak and vanilla from the cask. Finish: Medium to long finish with peat, sea salt, vanilla and oak.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
