This new heavily peated Port Charlotte MRC:01 2010 is returning to a golden age of when whisky was aged in french wine casks that were left unused after the French used to ship wine to the UK in casks before being bottled.
In this whisky, 50% of the original spirit is aged in first-fill bourbon casks and the other 50% is aged in second fill wine casks.
These are then brought together and aged in French oak from Bordeaux for a minimum of 12 months. Bruichladdich say this is a summer fruit and peat extravaganza!
