A bottle of the magnificent Bruichladdich 1984 Enlightenment 18-year-old, released in 2002 as one of the distillery's early prestige editions after the Murray McDavid takeover and revival.
A vatting of two ex-bourbon casks from the 1984 vintage, Bruichladdich Enlightenment 18-year-old was a limited edition of just 500 bottles at a cask strength of 53.7%, and they really pushed the boat out for the packaging - a remarkably hefty wooden box presented with a lovely high class reprint of The Practical Distiller; Or A Brief Treatise on Practical Distillation.
The Practical Distiller was a key historical distillation textfirst published in 1718 during the Age of Enlightenment - which gives this whisky its name - and thankfully after all that the whisky was brilliant as well, ensuring Bruichladdich Enlightenment a well-deserved spot in the must-have lists of all Bruichladdich collectors.
