Auchentoshan distillery (pronounced: Ock-en-TOSH-an) in the Scottish Lowlands is one of the bigger names in malt whisky and one of the very few remaining Scottish distilleries to practice triple distillation as a standard procedure in its production. A light, delicate single malt whisky, Auchentoshan is a relatively distinctive dram thanks to the joys of triple distillation and is well worth close investigation from serious whisky fans.
Auchentoshan is easy to overlook if you like big flavoursome malts, especially if your only encounters are with the distillery's standard no-age-statement (NAS) bottlings. But it is a whisky with great potential and when aged properly it can show outstanding complexity, poise and elegance with a wonderful array of lighter, fruit-driven flavours.
