Another of those splendid 'Undisclosed Orkney' single malts from a distillery that rhymes with Pieland Bark. This one is a single cask of Orkney 2003 bottled as an 18-year-old by Alistair Walker Whisky Co. for their Infrequent Flyers range.
Cask 5749 of 18-year-old Orkney 2003 was finished in virgin oak before bottling without colouring or chill filtration at its natural cask strength of 54.9%, yielding 273 bottles. This one seems exceptionally good value, particularly when you look at how much the official bottlings go for at this age.

Nose: Digestive biscuits, toasted oak and vanilla.
Palate: Honeycomb and more vanilla. A slight sweet and savoury note emerges - salted caramel, peanut brittle.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
