Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: The Syndicate 70cl / 44%
The Syndicate are a group of evidently well-connected, collectively deep-pocketed friends who have bought and bottled a series of spectacular Islay casks, the majority of which are from Lagavulin and Caol Ila. The casks were kept at Bruichladdich and bottled there, originally by Murray McDavid.
This Lagavulin is from the 1990 vintage (Cask 4394) and was bottled by the Syndicate as a 25-year-old in 2015 at 44%, yielding 243 bottles. Indie Lagavulins are vanishingly rare and The Syndicate's are far and away the best of them - needless to say this will be an amazing drop.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
