An exceptionally rare 11-year-old Lagavulin, privately bottled at an impressive 61.5% cask strength for associates of ‘The Syndicate’, the anonymous group of whisky enthusiasts and cask owners responsible for a handful of legendary Lagavulin bottlings.

We have been reliably informed that this is a single cask bottling, drawn from the same 1979 vintage stock as the better-known older Syndicate Lagavulins. With an 11-year age statement, this would place the bottling around 1990 or 1991, making it one of the earlier releases associated with the group.

The Syndicate's labels became more informative over time, in part following recommendations from Whisky-Online, with later bottlings providing more useful details about the whisky inside. This early example is rather more enigmatic, its label closely following the design of Lagavulin's contemporary official Classic Malts bottlings despite being a private release.

With its single cask provenance, 1979 vintage stock and remarkable rarity, this is a fascinating early Syndicate Lagavulin and a particularly unusual piece of the distillery's history.
