Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 46%
Fettercairn is a distillery that doesn't get a lot of love, but in the hands of indie bottlers like Douglas Laing we can see its best side, especially with folk like Douglas Laing who never add colour or chill filter their whiskies.
The good thing about unloved distilleries is that their whisky can be had at very reasonable prices, so if you're looking for a great value easy-drinking Speyside with clean, sweet and spicy flavours then this 2012 vintage Fettercairn fits the bill perfectly. Bottled from a refill hogshead in 2021 as an 8-year-old for Douglas Laing's Provenance series at 46%.

Tasting Notes
Nose: An interesting combo of honey, barley, nuts and warm malted milk.
Palate: Shows early fudge and tongue-tingling spices ahead of a hot toddy's honey and lemon.
Finish: The spices and general effect are drier now, with mellow malt and honey showing.
My whisky journey travels into the Highlands this time - Aberdeenshire - and here we have a lovely dram from Fettercairn (the name of the distillery and the place) matured and bottled by Douglas Laing for their great value Provenance range. This has a pale, straw colour appearance and displays good legs, the nose brought caramel/fudge notes at the start, followed by brandy-laced mince pie/christmas pudding aromas, with a hint of burnt brown sugar apparent. The taste profile is rather sweet, with the caramelly, toffee & fudgy characteristics, and an oak spice note developing in the finish. A very easy sipper, this is a great whisky at a fantastic value. I look forward to trying more from the Provenance range.

Complex with subtle dried citrus, raisins as I would usually like in a sherry cask but something (the smoke, grape skins ? from the sherry cask?) unwelcome reminds me of grappa.
