Description

Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Douglas Laing 70cl / 48.4%

A refill hogshead from the criminally overlooked Allt-A-Bhainne distillery, this is a single cask from the 2008 vintage, bottled in 2021 by Douglas Laing as a 12-year-old for their Old Particular series, yielding 411 bottles at their preferred strength of 48.4%.

Allt-A-Bhainne might not blow anyone's socks off, but we're certain that this will be a very good session Speysider with plenty of sweet fruit and biscuity barley notes at a great value price.

A very fine dram indeed.

My whisky journey continues and what better place to stop for a rest than a Douglas Laing Old Particular Allt-A-Bhainne? This is the first Old Particular whisky I have tried, and having never even heard of Allt-A-Bhainne until 3 months ago, this was a perfect opportunity to try two completely new things. And what a fantastic tasting experience it is so far. Having spent '12 glorious years' in a refill hogshead, the spirit has acquired a deep amber hue. The taste profile is rich, with notes of burnt sugar, syrup, some spice and fruits. I didn't find the smoke note outlined in the official tasting notes, but that is no detriment to the high standard of this dram in any way. Great mouthfeel and just right on alcohol content, not overpowering at 48.4% and able to take a drop or two of water without compromising the 'structure' of the whisky. An excellent value, very enjoyable bottle.
