The whisky in the Strathspey series that G&M bottled back in the 1970s was from Macallan distillery. This is both a magnificent example of the sort of quality that made Macallan's name, and in incredible snapshot in a golden era of Scottish distilling.


A part from being one of the numerous incredible malts that G&M have released from the pre-war years of the 1930s, it is also worth pointing out that the whisky inside this bottle is Macallan. An official 1938 Macallan will set you back several thousand pounds so if you want to know what all the fuss is about then this is a good place to start. Resinous, blindingly fruity, green, tropical, phenolic, metallic, waxy, mineral, oily, peaty and filled with aged notes like rancio and old tobacco leaf. Some might call it a 'blast from the past'.
