Balvenie is a distillate that seriously benefits from a bit of proper aging, something which is revealed quite clearly in the mature elegance of this bottling. Combine that with the fact that 1974 seems to have produced a number of remarkably excellent bottlings from this distillery and you have a very promising and fascinating dram indeed.


Waxy and fruity in equal measure, much more akin to the older style Balvenies, this is a wonderful dram filled with precision and sinewy execution.
