Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Dram Mor 70cl / 54.1%
Another of the famed 'Secret Orkney' mystery single malts that Highland Park fans in particular tend to find very much to their liking. This Secret Orkney 2008 is a 14-year-old bottled by Dram Mor for their Autumn 2022 outturn.
Bottled at its cask strength of 54.1%, this Secret Orkney 2008 has come from a particularly interesting refill cask that previously held Islay whisky from the Rhinns (so Bruichladdich or Kilchoman), but started life maturing the delectable Bordeaux dessert wine Sauternes, so expect exotic fruit and smoke on top of the Orkney heather honey character - this will be a peach.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Colour: Light golden syrup.
Nose: It is pretty mild on the nose. There is a hint of charred oak but not the powerful oak you would expect from this Orcadian spirit that has rested in Islay oak.
Palate: And there’s the smoke! Its a gentle but unavoidable peat smoke but there is so much more than that in this dram. Sweet, juicy stone fruits of peach and nectarine fill the mouth.
Finish: A rollercoaster of flavours which combine all the fruitiness of the pallet with that incredible cask. Quite simply sumptuous.
Finish: Floral, lots and lots of blossoms, delicate fruit, a very little smoke and something not unlike frankincense, fleeting but delicious with just a delicate birch sap at the end.

on the nose a wee hint of Tormore and then and then Sherry, notes of stewed plum, a wee hint of spice and some oak.
On the palate the sherry is very mighty, doesn't leave much space for other notes. A mouthfull of pleasure with a short to medium finish. That is with the first sip, the more you have, you get a layer in your mouth, smooth but lasting.
A Smashin' dram at an nice price in Cask Strength, a bit to heavy on the Sherry side. Perfect to sit down at sundown and just simply enjoy... :-)
I bought this for my husband who loves peaty whiskies. He was impressednot only by the peat flavour but also the smoothness - I think it could become a new favourite.
