Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46%
The excellent Kilchoman Machir Bay is a vatting of whiskies predominately matured in first-fill bourbon casks and a much smaller number from sherry casks.
This beautiful marriage gives a unique balance of aromatic and coastal peat smoke, citrus and tropical fruit.
Located on the west coast of Islay, Machir Bay is a beautiful but wild long sweeping stretch of beach just a stone's throw from Kilchoman Distillery. Kilchoman is the only farm distillery on Islay, and the only distillery in Scotland to distil whisky from barley grown and malted on one site.

Wow, what a whisky this is. One of those drams that carries a lot of different characteristics, with a little peat smoke, a little sherry cask influence and plenty of top notch ex-bourbon barrel in the flavour profile. I purchased this as part of a few Islay drams to accompany the reading of "Peat, Smoke & Spirit" by Andrew Jefford, an excellent book that was recommended to me by a member of the Whisky Online team. This Machir Bay is a lovely dram, not to be dismissed due to the lack of an age statement, with a complex flavour profile that certainly dismisses any perception that "all Islay whiskies are heavily peated". I look forward to tasting more of their range. Excellent value too at £45.
