Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46%
The splendid Second Edition of Bruichladdich 15-year-old, which was blended by Jim McEwan from stocks distilled before Murray McDavid took over the distillery and released in the mid-Noughties to great acclaim.
There were several bottlings of this Second Edition - this one is from 2006, so the whisky would have been distilled around the turn of the 1990s when, against the odds, the distillery was making some of the greatest whisky in its modern history.
As with a lot of Bruichladdich's maturing stock that Murray McDavid had inherited, the original ex-bourbon casks were rather tired, so for this 15-year-old the whisky was re-racked for finishing into casks that had previously held the splendid French dessert wine Sauternes. This is one of the best of Bruichladdich's finishing experiments.
