A 2013 vintage Staoisha, distilled at Bunnahabhain on Islay and bottled in September 2026 by Alistair Walker for the Infrequent Flyers series. Aged for 12 years and finished in a Chinquapin oak barrel, this heavily peated single malt was drawn from single cask #802697, yielding 265 bottles at a natural cask strength of 54.4%.

Staoisha is the name used for Bunnahabhain's heavily peated spirit, produced in contrast to the distillery's traditionally unpeated house style. Named after a nearby loch, Staoisha has become increasingly familiar through independent bottlings, offering a different perspective on Bunnahabhain with its pronounced peat smoke, maritime character and robust Islay influence.

The use of Chinquapin oak adds another interesting dimension to this release. A species of American white oak, Chinquapin is known for imparting distinctive spicy, sweet and woody characteristics, often associated with vanilla, toasted oak and warming baking spices. Combined with Staoisha's heavily peated spirit, the finishing period offers an intriguing contrast between smoke and the influence of the oak.

Part of Alistair Walker's Infrequent Flyers series, established in 2018 to showcase distinctive single cask whiskies from across Scotland, this is an interesting example of peated Bunnahabhain with an unusual cask finish and a limited outturn of just 265 bottles.
