The independent bottlers Signatory Vintage have a long and illustrious history of bottling outstanding peated single malt whiskies, particularly from Islay. Signatory's peated whiskies are usually single cask and small batch editions bottled without colouring or chill filtration, with the vast majority released either at 46% or at their natural cask strength.

Signatory Vintage released some legendary examples of peated whisky distilled in the 1960s and 1970s at Islay distilleries including Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Bowmore and Port Ellen in the 1990s. Smoky whisky was out of fashion, the whisky industry was still suffering the effects of the 1980s whisky lake crisis, and casks of peated Islay single malt whiskies were available at knockdown prices as distillers were desperate to raise revenue and make room in their warehouses.

This was a very good time to be a new independent bottler and a fan of Islay whisky, as smoky whisky was out of fashion and most Islay. Today, Signatory still bottle classic Islay peated malts, alongside smoky whisky from other distilleries including Ledaig, Benriach and Ardmore.
