A 2021 vintage Holyrood, bottled in 2026 at five years of age by Alistair Walker for the 22nd batch of his Infrequent Flyers series. Drawn from single cask #318, a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel, this Lowland single malt was bottled at a natural cask strength of 60.1%, with an outturn of just 274 bottles.

Established in Edinburgh in 2019, Holyrood was the city's first operational single malt whisky distillery for almost a century. Founded with an emphasis on experimentation, the distillery has taken a distinctive approach to whisky production, exploring different barley varieties, yeast strains and fermentation techniques to create a diverse range of spirit styles.

Distilled in 2021, this whisky comes from Holyrood's earliest years of production, making it an interesting example of the distillery's developing character. The use of a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel provides an opportunity to explore the influence of American oak on its youthful spirit, with the potential for vanilla, honeyed sweetness, fresh fruit and gentle spice.

The Infrequent Flyers series was established in 2018 by independent bottler Alistair Walker, whose family has longstanding connections to the Scotch whisky industry. The range focuses on individually selected single casks, often highlighting distilleries and vintages that are less frequently encountered among independent bottlings.

An interesting early vintage from one of Scotland's newer distilleries, offering an opportunity to explore Holyrood's character through an independently selected single cask at full strength.
