Description

Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46.4%

The Autumn 2022 release from Isle of Raasay distillery, Raasay R-02.1 sticks to the formula that has served the tiny island's only distillery well in previous editions.

Like its predecessors, Isle of Raasay R-02.1 is a mix of the distillery's peated and unpeated spirits, which are matured separately in first fill rye whiskey casks (63%), virgin oak (26%) and red wine casks (11%) before marrying, and has been bottled at a tidy 46.4% without colouring or chill filtration.

A cracking young whisky

Ok it's a young whisky and quite spirity so a drop of water easily calms it down. Despite it's age it's rich and surprisingly complex. The level of peat is well balanced with the rich fruit and a distinct mineral content. There is malty biscuit, vanilla and some darker fruit in there as well along with some spice and pepper. Perhaps a little pricey but never the less, a very decent single malt indeed.
