Independent whisky bottlers Murray McDavid introduced their Cask Craft range towards the end of 2022 with a specific focus on the art of ‘finishing’ whiskies - the process where whisky is re-racked from its original cask into a different cask for the last period of its maturation before bottling.

Murray McDavid have long been advocates of this type of brief double maturation, using it for many of their whisky releases, and the Cask Craft series is designed as an entry-level introduction to the fine art of cask finishing. The whiskies released in Murray McDavid’s Cask Craft range thus far have all been small batch editions bottled without age statements at a standard strength of 44.5%, and a variety of different finishing cask types have been used.

As of summer 2023, the Cask Craft range had included bottlings from distilleries including Loch Lomond (Croftengea), Mannochmore, Linkwood and Glen Elgin and the types of casks used to finish the whiskies included tawny port barriques, sherry, madeira and marsala casks.
