Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 56.8%
Older Ledaigs are hopefully going to become more common - the avid fanbase for Tobermory's peated whisky emerged thanks to the outstanding quality and power of some young cask strength heavily-sherried bottlings, but there's much more to Ledaig than just high strength smoky sherried drams.
Having said all that, here's a rather exciting high strength sherried Ledaig - although this one is from a refill sherry butt and is 19 years old, and should therefore demonstrate a little more restraint and complexity than some of the monstrous youngsters.
This is Ledaig from the celebrated 2001 vintage, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in February 2021 from a single refill sherry butt #278 that yielded 533 bottles at a hearty 56.8% for their Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series.

Yes, a lovely expression from Ardnmurchan. As young as it is (5yrs old I believe), it tastes twice its maturity!
Very well made, delicious & beautifully complex smells & flavours to savour.
Having been fortunate enough to visit Scotland’s little gem distillery twice in the past ( amongst several others) it soon became my favourite dram. This like all its predecessors is a pleasure to savour and a real treat . The only problem is the self discipline required to make the bottle last long enough and show the respect and gratitude to its makers in producing this and in my humble opinion all others from Scotland’s little gem.
