Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 43%
An old bottle of the much-loved Glenmorangie Madeira Wood Finish, in the later 'stripe' label that first appeared in the early 2000s. Along with the short-lived (and unloved) Burgundy Finish, Glenmorangie Madeira Wood was discontinued in 2007 amid much lamentation.
Back in the day it was accepted wisdom among whisky fans that the Madeira Wood edition (first introduced in 1996) was easily the best of the original Glenmorangie wood finishes - a spicy, sweet, fruit driven dram. Aged in ex-bourbon casks for a decade before a two-year finishing period in the Madeira casks, this remains a classic Glenmorangie from the tail end of the distillery's golden period and is a very easy-drinking dram that still holds up well.
