Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Berry Bros & Rudd 70cl / 60.2%

Lochindaal is the name given to one of the rarer heavily-peated spirits made by Bruichladdich distillery on Islay. Lochindaal is generally peated to around 50ppm, so it's smokier than the Port Charlotte spirit, but nowhere near as OTT as Octomore.

This Lochindaal is from a single first fill bourbon barrel distilled in 2010 and has been bottled as a 10-year-old  by our friends at posh wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd at the rather epic strength of 60.2%.

Tasting Notes

This is a first fill Bourbon barrel of the rarely seen, heavily-peated malt Lochindaal from Bruichladdich distillery.

Nose: It immediately makes itself known throwing a myriad of aromas out of the glass: peat smoke, vanilla pods, camphor, cloves, damp wool and fireworks all come to mind.

Palate: The palate is equally powerful with waves of fruit, spice and peat smoke all fighting for prominence.

Finish: Flavours of bonfire ash, paraffin, lime juice and gingerbread all pop out.

Doug McIvor Says

“I recall standing on the harbour wall at Bowmore with James McEwan who was manager there at the time. With a glint in his eye, he pointed across the bay to Bruichladdich and told me he would love to work his magic there. That was 30 years ago. Lochindaal was one of his many outstanding creations during his tenure at Bruichladdich.”
