Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
 Distillery Bottling 75cl / 40%

An old bottle of Bruichladdich 10-year-old Islay single malt whisky.  This is an official bottling from the distillery and judging by the boasting on the back label about the Double Gold award from the International Wine & Spirit Competition 1979, we're going to go out on a limb and estimate this bottle to be from the early 1980s.

Although they were bottling excellent whiskies at the time, Bruichladdich was in transition and decline when this bottling appeared. The distillery had been owned since 1968 by Invergordon, who had extended Bruichladdich to four stills in 1975 but did little else before selling up to Whyte & Mackay in 1993.

The whisky in this old early 1980s bottle of Bruichladdich 10-year-old, therefore, would have been distilled no later than the early 1970s, when the distillery was still a very unmodernised traditional two still operation.  These cream label screwtop Bruichladdichs from the 1980s were great bottlings, big salty drams, full of soft green fruits, coastal freshness and lovely mineral complexities.
