Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 40%
An old bottling of the much-loved Bowmore Legend. This particular edition is known as Legend of The Devil or The Devil Visits Bowmore Church and was first bottled in 1996 as the third of what was to become a total of 13 different Bowmore Legend editions.
The story goes that the devil snuck into Bowmore church in 1837. The church at the top of the town's Main Street famously has no corners for the devil to hide in, however, and the miscreant was subsequently chased by the parishioners down to the distillery, where he disappeared and was believed subsequently to have escaped to the mainland in a cask of whisky transported on the steamboat The Maid of Islay.
Bowmore Legend was first bottled in the 1990s and has featured sporadically in the core range ever since. Lacking an age statement, this expression was viewed with mistrust early on in some quarters, but it found its audience quite quickly among fans of fresh, mediumweight but still peaty Islay malts. A very nice old young whisky.

Balmenach was a new Distillery to me that is probably better known these days for it's Gin production. I've tried quite a few of the SV 100 Proof offerings and have yet to be disappointed. I have found that Balmenach Whisky isn't that easy to get hold of so this was a good opportunity to try it and I was nicely impressed. If you like sherry bombs you'll probably like this one.
