Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery Bottling 70cl / 59.6%
A fantastic Linlithgow 1973 30-year-old Lowland single malt whisky from the distillery also known as St. Magdalene, and was bottled at cask strength by owners Diageo in 2004 for one of the early runs of the Special Releases.
After a previous trio of Rare Malts bottlings and a staff-only single cask edition, all bottled as St. Magdalene, this bottling was the fifth and, as of 2024, final official release from the Linlithgow / St. Magdalene distillery (which closed in 1983) and was the only official bottling ever labelled as Linlithgow.
This 2004 Special Releases Linlithgow 1973 30-year-old was an edition of just 1500 bottles, and like the previous official bottlings it's a magnificent dram - a full-on fruit bomb at its mighty cask strength of 59.6%, bursting with orchard and exotic fruits on a bed of sturdy, spicy oak. A masterpiece.
What a crazy, insane bottle from the early 2000s when it was bottled. Just tons of fruit and old style grassy notes!

This is beautiful! Decent sherry hit, lots of dark fruit, leaning towards ripe plum for me. Hit of mint too which I find more in heavily sherried bottles. Very decent abv. Let's face it, if it was bottled by the (m) distillery in this presentation it would cost £300/£350 minimum. Will be treating myself to anoulther shortly 😁 drop of water makes this just too moreish!
