A small batch 1986 Glenfarclas 29-year-old released in 2016 as the fifth release in the distillery's Family Collectors Series, celebrating the Grant family's stewardship of Glenfarclas through the ages.
This Glenfarclas 1986 Family Collectors release is a vatting of two refill sherry butts bottled at a natural cask strength of 53.8%. From the 1094 bottles produced less than 240 bottles were allocated for the UK market in 2016 and this bottling is quite rare to see nowadays, in no small part because this is a particularly fine vintage Glenfarclas, with generous but not overpowering sherry influence and outstanding complexity.

If you like your Whisky matured in a sherry cask then you will not be disappointed with this one, the flavours transferred from the Oloroso butts are unmistakably sherry, with a mixture of fruitiness coming through once you’ve added a slug of water, in my opinion at this cask strength you need need a good measure of H2O to really appreciate this very fine reasonably priced Whisky.
