Description

Blended Scotch Whisky 75cl / 40%

A 1980s Clan Campbell, one of the historic export blended Scotch whiskies bottled by Muir Mackenzie, a subsidiary of the S. Campbell & Son export company. Clan Campbell is a major brand in several export markets, particularly Italy and France, though this bottle was for the Spanish market.

S. Campbell & Son bought the Aberlour distillery in 1945 and used its output for its two main blends: Clan Campbell and White Heather. The company was taken over in 1974 by Pernod Ricard, who continued Campbell's expansion into new export markets and funded the purchase of Edradour distillery for the Campbell portfolio in 1982.

A slightly higher malt content elevated the Clan Campbell blend above your average mixer. Very sippable and perfect over ice.

Yesterday's style

This was a great opportunity to taste whisky of a relatively standard bottle from the 1980s. It's very tasty and satisfying. Unlike modern day blends like jw black, it isn't designed to enter the palate with a whisper, this is quite bold but not harsh. The nearest malt I could compare it to is deanston 18, its high in ginger, slight almond , orchard fruits, sometimes the corn aroma is apparent, , like fresh popcorn, the sweetness has a sherry type sweetness. All in all a very satisfying dram
