A wonderful old bottle of Glen Grant 42-year-old Speyside single malt whisky released by independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail in the 1970s. This is one of the Elgin legends' famous semi-official licensed bottlings that later became known as the Distillery Labels series.

This 42-year-old Glen Grant is such a resinous, concentrated whisky right from the moment you open the cap. Thick, thick, thick is the first impression: bags of crystallised fruits, glycerine-like ancient peat aromas, huge notes of rancio, tobacco and old cognac, then a wall of fruits, green, tropical, white fruits, just and endless complexity of aged characters and flavours.

An unforgettable drinking experience. Although not stated on the label this Glen Grant is from the 1936 vintage, bottled in 1978 at 42 years of age. We opened a bottle of this one year on Islay. It blew everything else out of the water, even the 1958 Bowmore. One of the most heartbreakingly beautiful examples of aged malt whisky you'll find anywhere.
