Description

Lowland Single Grain Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Dead Whisky Society 70cl / 51.6%

The Cambus distillery in Alloa was once one of the largest grain whisky producers in Scotland but fell victim to the oversupply crisis in the 1980s and was closed by owners United Distillers in 1993. The site now hosts a cooperage, cask-filling plant and warehousing.

This 1983 vintage Cambus Lowland single grain whisky was bottled at its full natural cask strength of 51.6% by independent bottlers Dead Whisky Society in 2011 at 27 years of age. Dead Whisky Society, as the name suggests, specialised in bottlings of whisky from closed distilleries but are sadly now dormant themselves.

Cambus is another of those grain distilleries that doesn't get the recognition it deserves. We've tried this excellent whisky on several occasions and if tasted blind you wouldn't guess it was a grain. It seems to have that old school profile we love so much.

We've all judged whiskies with our eyes but actually, it's what's in the glass that counts.
