This limited Port Ellen from Douglas Laing was distilled in 1979 and aged for 40 years in refill butt #DL13800 before being bottled in 2020 with a yield of just 299 bottles.
XOP The Black Series was created by Douglas Laing to showcase their super-premium single cask releases. Each bottle is filled by hand and has an embossed metallic label, glass stopper and handwritten signatures of Fred and Cara Laing. The bottles are presented in a sleek black moleskin box with an accompanying certificate.
Official Tasting Notes Nose: Like a gently burnt scone initially, followed by the softest peated barley and brown sugar. Palate: An eclectic mix of fudge, spices, chewed leather, more subtle peat and a saline quality with late cool dust and ash. Finish: Amplifies all those earlier subtleties with the emphasis on big-hitting spices, smoke, iodine, and phenolic charm.

Richly sherried and fruit driven and all the better for knowing that all proceeds will go the very worthwhile cause of Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance.
I bought this as a present then did the tour with my brother at Lindores Abbey distillery in Newburgh Fife. The bottle i bought from Whisky-online was cheaper than at Lindores ,very happy again and a very quick delivery.
