Japanese Pure Malt Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 43%
An old bottle of the marvellous Nikka Taketsuru 17 year old Pure Malt, which was always right in the sweet spot between the 12-year-old and 21-year-old Taketsuru blends. Livelier than the 21-year-old, and deeper and more complex than its youthful sibling, Nikka Taketsuru 17-year-old was a standard-bearer for Japanese blending.
Nikka Taketsuru 17-year-old contains malt whiskies from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, and although there were persistent rumours that the blend may also contain malt whisky from the company's Ben Nevis distillery this was never publicly confirmed.
Sadly the point is moot now, as all the age-statement Taketsuru blended malts were discontinued in 2020 during the ongoing Japanese whisky supply crisis. Enjoy Nikka Taketsuru 17-year-old's wonderful smoky, slightly waxy and spicy old style personality while you can, we may not see its like again for a long time.
