Fettercairn's owners Whyte & Mackay evidently have some long-aged stocks on hand, despite the large majority of the distillery's output going for blending.
Several long-aged limited editions of Fettercairn have appeared in recent years as W&M, following the 2018 brand relaunch, seek to position Fettercairn up near the top of the Highland tree alongside sister distillery Dalmore.
This Fettercairn 28-year-old, like the 12-year-old and 22-year-old expressions, is entirely from ex-bourbon casks. A gentle but assertive Highland dram, with fruity, nutty and caramel flavours on a bed of spices and sturdy oak.

Colour: Deep shimmering gold.
Palate: Pineapple and melon give way to treacle and banana, with a hint of warm ginger and liquorice.
Finish: Citrus peel and black pepper, tempered by walnuts, vanilla, and spices. Coffee, apricot, and a touch of sweet balsamic complete this rewarding experience.
