Blair Athol distillery ought to be celebrated for so much more than just pumping out muscular Highland single malt whisky for the Bells blend. Unfortunately that task still falls to the indie bottlers - or perhaps not so unfortunately, as they do such an excellent job of it.
Douglas Laing have selected this Blair Athol 2008 and bottled it for their Old Particular range as a 12-year-old from a single refill hogshead, producing 262 bottles at a heartwarming 48.4%. Tasting Notes
Nose: Clean, crisp and fragrant with cereal, gentle spices and hot buttered toast.
Palate: Clean as anticipated - carrying barley and honey, now also with sugary citrus.
Finish: Fudge-y, malted and really sweet, with a nice amalgam of all the above.
I bought this for a friend who tells me it’s a "Fabulous Whisky” with some truly amazing flavours that seem to linger for quite a while. He did say that he will be very sorry to drink the last drop.
