A mystery Islay single malt from Berry Bros, who have bottled this 14-year-old Undisclosed Islay 2007 after a finishing period in an Oloroso sherry butt that yielded a generous 692 bottles at its natural cask strength of 55.7%.
Undisclosed Islays are usually excellent, and from Berry Bros you know the quality is going to be high. This looks like a must-have for fans of the classic peat and sherry combo.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Peated whisky matured in ex-sherry wood is a hard balancing act to pull off, but the bouquet of ashy smoke, kippers, nutmeg and dried figs leaves one in no doubt that this cask has achieved such a feat!
Palate: The palate is a similarly harmonious meeting of smoke and sherry with neither too dominant, there’s also complex notes of citrus, icing sugar, tobacco leaf and a little coastal note too.
Finish: The spicy sherry wood pops on the finish showing dried fruit, cinnamon and dates with a pleasing smoky tang.
Ronnie Cox Says
"A cracker from this classic distillery. At full strength the expected smoke disguises much, so the nose needs time to discover other complexities. With water the bruised orchard fruit come to the fore with a puff of smoke in the background.
This is a pastel-coloured Islay compared to the oft darker West Coast equivalents. The combination with the Sherry Butt influence delivers a truly outstanding portrait.”

The value is there for sure and it is definitely worth a buy, but there is a slight punch to it, bordering ever so slightly on that sulphuric taste you sometimes get with sherry butts. Not as rounded or soft as I'd have expected for a 13 yr old. Still great though.
Linkwood 17 Year Old Signatory Vintage Exceptional Cask 100 Proof Edition
Beautiful colour. Fruitcake and chocolate on the nose. I could sniff it for hours. The palate is rich full and well rounded with no sulphur or off notes. With a treacly mouth feel (beautiful legs!) and a long silky finish this is one to cherish. Incredible value at £70!
An exciting deep rich brown coloured liquid.
A compote of fruit together with dried grapes is lovely on the tongue.
Nicely sweetened syrup is evident too.
Invested in two bottles but will be ordering a third.
Great warming malt enjoyed by two. (One aka Pig)
