An old bottle of Lagavulin 1999 Distillers Edition released by the distillery at 43% in 2015 as part of owner Diageo's Classic Malts Distillers Editions range. Each of the Distillers Edition whiskies are finished in different types of fortified wines before bottling to add an extra dimension of sweet nutty flavours. 

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is the most popular of the Classic Malts Distillers Editions, which were first introduced in 1997 as Diageo's nod to the wood finishing craze consuming the whisky industry at the time. This Lagavulin Distillers Edition 1999 was finished in casks that previously held Pedro Ximenez sherry, giving a lovely combination of earthy peat smoke and concentrated raisin sweetness.

These PX sherry-seasoned casks added a previously unimagined depth and sweetness to balance Lagavulin's occasionally savage character at the time and caused a sensation when the first Lagavulin DE appeared in 1997. Lagavulin is a rather tamer beast these days, but these older vintage editions remain excellent after-dinner whiskies for fans of the peat'n'sherry combo.
