Miltonduff is a workhorse Speyside single malt whisky distillery that changed hands a few times before being acquired by Canadian giant Hiram Walker in 1936. Walker transferred Miltonduff to their Ballantine’s subsidiary and the distillery's whisky has been a keystone malt for the blend ever since. Miltonduff distillery has been part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio since Pernod Ricard bought Allied Domecq in 2005. 

Hiram Walker were known for experimentation at their Scottish distilleries and Miltonduff was no exception, receiving a pair of Lomond stills in 1964. These special stills consist of a pot still base with a rectifying column instead of the usual swan neck and lye pipe, and were used to manufacture a second single malt spirit named Mosstowie.

Miltonduff was modernised in 1974 and the Lomond stills were replaced with pot stills in 1981. This marked the end of the Mosstowie experiments and gave Miltonduff a total of six pot stills that now have a production capacity of just under 6 million litres.  Today, official bottlings of Miltonduff appear infrequently, though independent bottlings of the distillery's whisky are easy to come by.
