An early version of the hugely popular Lagavulin Distillers Edition, this was distilled in 1986 and bottled in 2002. The vintage Lagavulins were always among the very best of the Distillers Edition series, with the raw and complex 1980s Lagavulin spirit softened and enriched by finishing in casks seasoned with Pedro Ximenez sherry.
These PX sherry-seasoned casks added a previously unimagined depth and sweetness to balance Lagavulin's occasionally savage character at the time and caused a sensation when the first Lagavulin DE appeared in 1997. This Lagavulin 1986 Distillers Edition was the fifth release of its kind when it was bottled in 2002 and remains a highlight of the series.
