A very old bottle of Hine VSOP "Liqueur" Cognac, which carries the "By Appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II" royal warrant.
The use of the term "liqueur" on older Cognac labels (also the same as whisky), particularly those dating from the 1880s to the 1970s, was primarily a marketing technique. It was intended to denote premium quality, maturity, and a smooth, refined profile, rather than indicating that the product was a sweetened or low-alcohol liqueur in the modern sense.
