Dallas Dhu

Dallas Dhu distillery is one of the more notorious names in the pantheon of Scotland's closed distilleries. The distillery closed in 1983 and was sold in 1986 to Historic Scotland, who preserved it as a museum.

Dallas Dhu was one of those distilleries, akin to Glen Mhor or Glen Albyn, that was a true eccentric. The distillery's spirit was not always technically perfect, and occasionally bordered on difficult and strange, but the whisky was never boring and was usually infinitely more charming than some of the mundane whisky created by the efficiencies of today's distillation techniques.

In 2024 Historic Scotland announced that Dallas Dhu would be restarting whisky production under the management of Aceo Ltd. The buildings and equipment were maintained while the distillery was in mothballs, so the restoration should be relatively simple and distillation is due to recommence late in 2025 or early in 2026.
