The Clydeside distillery was founded in 2017, becoming the second modern day distillery to be constructed in Glasgow after the Glasgow Distillery, which opened a couple of years earlier.

Built on Stobcross Road in the Queen’s Dock area by the SECC on the north bank of the river, Clydeside was the brainchild of Stanley Walker (Tim) Morrison, who had overseen the sale of his family’s Morrison Bowmore Distillers business to Suntory in the 1990s while in the same period reacquiring the rights to the historic Glasgow whisky broking and bottling business A.D. Rattray which had been founded by his ancestor Andrew Dewar Rattray in 1868.
