Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 46.3%
A bottle of Bunnahabhain's 12-year-old Islay single malt whisky, the key core bottling in the distillery's range. Prior to 2010, Bunnahabhain's 12-year-old was bottled at 40% and was both colour-adjusted and chill filtered, but after the caramel colouring was dropped and the strength was upped to 46.3% (to obviate the need for chill filtration), sales of this cracking dram increased 160% over the next decade.
Bunnahabhain's standard spirit was traditionally peated until 1963, but has been unpeated ever since - a rarity on Islay where Bruichladdich are the only other distillers to have an unpeated house style. This unpeated 12-year-old Bunnahabhain has a strong sherry influence and has driven the distillery's huge increase in popularity over the last decade or two.
