Gin is a long standing traditional drink with a history that stretches all the way back to the Middle Ages. Derived from the more basic Dutch spirit Jenever it is primarily a neutral spirit redistilled with botanicals to add flavour. The key flavour of all gins is Juniper with the majority also featuring citrus, herbal and spice based botanical elements as well. Because of its popularity and versatility as a mixer and cocktail ingredient, combined with its relative simplicity and ease to make, Gin has become a prominent and highly trendy spirit in recent years. Most western countries with any semblance of a spirits industry produce some sort of gin. The UK and USA are by far the most prolific countries in terms of Gin production though.
