The Family Casks series was conceived of as a way for Glenfarclas to release much of its vast archive of mature stock in a way that would reflect its quality and maximise its potential profit. The first release, in 2007, ended up being a selection of single casks, one from each year ranging from 1952 all the way to 1994. After each single cask sold out it was replaced by another from that same vintage so as to maintain as wide a range of consecutive vintages as possible. In further years the range of vintages was extended to the year 2000. The single casks are all varied in style, with the range featuring sherry butts, hogsheads, plain casks, refills and first fills. Some very dark, young and powerful drams sit alongside quite pale, very old and exceptionally light and fruity whiskies. The breadth of style and quality is immense in this series but each release holds true to the great Glenfarclas distillery character and the one constant is exceptional quality.
