A special project for Glenmorangie's Cask Masters Selection, the Glenmorangie Taghta limited edition was released in 2014 after an exhaustive campaign where whisky punters could try three whiskies from different cask types chosen by Dr. Bill Lumsden at consumer whisky shows and vote online for their favourite.
The winner, later named Glenmorangie Taghta (meaning 'Chosen'), was made with whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks before being re-racked into ex-manzanilla sherry casks for a further period of extra maturation. This Manzanilla sherry-finished Glenmorangie saw off competition from whiskies finished in Burgundy and Bordeaux red wine casks to win the consumers' choice competition.
Bottled at an easy-drinking 46%, Glenmorangie Taghta is a fruity and briny Glenmorangie with a bit more blustery Highland gusto that other examples in the range. A very satisfying and quite complex dram.
