Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Gordon & MacPhail 70cl / 56.8%
Older Ledaigs are hopefully going to become more common - the avid fanbase for Tobermory's peated whisky emerged thanks to the outstanding quality and power of some young cask strength heavily-sherried bottlings, but there's much more to Ledaig than just high strength smoky sherried drams.
Having said all that, here's a rather exciting high strength sherried Ledaig - although this one is from a refill sherry butt and is 19 years old, and should therefore demonstrate a little more restraint and complexity than some of the monstrous youngsters.
This is Ledaig from the celebrated 2001 vintage, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in February 2021 from a single refill sherry butt #278 that yielded 533 bottles at a hearty 56.8% for their Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength series. Blink and you'll miss it.
