Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Signatory Vintage 70cl / 56.4%
Caperdonich was closed for the final time in 2002 and the buildings were demolished in 2011 (although two of the stills were sold on to Owl distillery in Belgium). Prior to that, most of Caperdonich's spirit went to former owners Seagram / Pernod Ricard's blends, such as Chivas Regal.
It's a delight, therefore, to welcome this 20-year-old Signatory Vintage bottling of Caperdonich distilled in 2000, a couple of years before the distillery was laid to rest. Even better, it's from a hogshead cask bottled at its natural strength of 56.4%, giving Caperdonich's clean, grassy spirit plenty of space to express itself.
With all the above, plus the fact that Caperdonich was originally designed to mimic Glen Grant's malt style, this should be an absolutely terrific dram. There's been a few indie Caperdonichs about in recent years but who knows how long that will continue.
