Lowland Single Grain Scotch Whisky

Cameronbridge distillery in Fife is the oldest grain distillery in Scotland - it's been operating since before the invention of the Coffey still - and the largest grain distillery in Europe, producing over 2.5 million litres of spirit a week. Yet today it's probably most famous for being the home of a certain footballer's grain whisky that comes in a blue perfume bottle.

As well as knocking out grain whisky for a significant proportion of Scotland's blended whiskies, Cameronbridge makes the majority of spirit for Smirnoff vodka and Tanqueray gin. You'd think more people would know about it, but they don't.

Thankfully, that means that casks of old Cameronbridge single Lowland grain whisky, while not exactly easy to come by, are very good value when they do crop up. Here's a case in point, a 1984 Cameronbridge 36-year-old from the stalwarts at Signatory, bottled in 2021 from a single hogshead that yielded 193 bottles at full cask strength of 48.9%. An unexpected treat.
