Bunnahabhain distillery is located on the wild and rugged shores on the Sound of Islay. It was officially founded in 1883 and due to there being no road to the distillery it had to receive all supplies via boat until 1960 when a road was built. In 1963 the number of stills increased from two to four and its floor maltings were decommissioned. It closed between 1982 and 1984, before the old malting floors were converted into warehousing in 2014.
