Whisky Online Auctions Tasting Notes: Bowmore 1990 - Cask 3322:
Colour: Light Gold .
Nose: Soft and gently scented with smoke, candle wax, coastal freshness and taut minerals. The freshness is impressive with notes of fabric, lemon, chalk and beach pebbles. Gets slightly farmy with time to open up. Well balanced with some sooty and cereal qualities.
Palate: Raw, citric and powerful with some rather punchy mineral notes. Big notes of mineral salts, dried flowers, brine, umami and dried herbs. Very typical and good 1990 Bowmore. Salty, clean, smoky and mineral without any excessive fruit or soap. A character that feels very specific to this vintage. In time becomes more elegantly smoky and develops notes of hessian, olive oil and canvas. Finish: Rather long and mouth coating. It's a big, textural, fatty style of distillate. Leaves behind notes of mixed dried herbs, wood spice, glue and strong, earthy teas.
Finish: Long, dry, very lemony and salty. Chiselled and saline with more of these mineral qualities and quite a bit of pepperiness and dried herbs. The smoke profile nods towards late-70s Brora at times!
Comments: An excellent and hyper-clean old Bowmore. It lacks any overt tropical character but it's also devoid of the 80s perfume or soapiness as well. A very specific style of Bowmore from a very singular and fascinating vintage. Given the strength and the impressive freshness of the spirit, this should easily go to 30 years and could even make 35 with a bit of careful attention.
Although a condition report is normally included in the Lot description, we do recommend viewing/close inspection prior to placing any bids. If this is not an option and you have questions beyond the offered description and images, please use the form below "Ask A Question" to make specific enquiries or to receive a more in-depth condition report. Otherwise, Lots will be sold as seen and described.
Please note: due to the various ages of bottles, corks and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion. And no claim can be lodged against failure/leakage in transit.
All bottles are checked by our whisky specialists Wayne & Harrison Ormerod prior to any auction. We do not auction opened bottles so therefore all items are sealed unless stated under certain circumstances where seals were never issued by the producer.
No item is deemed new, however many items are generally in good condition. When this is not the case, we aim to mention any faults in the description. The images supplied are of the actual item you will receive. If the filling level of the liquid is not visible in the images provided, we aim to indicate the current position in the description. If the filling level is impossible to determine, such as with ceramics decanters, we will provide an overall weight of the decanter in KG. Our filling level guideline can be found here.
