Auchroisk 1990-2010 | 20 Year Old
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 58.1%
One of the more divisive offerings from 2010's Special Releases. This is, in fact, an excellent Auchroisk that is just quite difficult and takes time and careful water addition to really understand. One for those who like to wrestle their drams...
Bottled from a mix of European and American oak casks this is a by turns drying and often sweetish dram that seems slightly polarized on occasion. Quite old style in many ways it displays big notes of wood but also lots of lemony aspects, minerals, ginger, garden fruits and reserved complexity. A compelling dram that requires patience but is ultimately rewarding.
Auchroisk distillery was founded in 1972 by Justerini & Brooks after a well (Dorie's well) was discovered and found to have water similar to that at Glen Spey and the spirit then earmarked to go into the J & B blend. The first single malt was produced in 1978 and the first single malt bottled in 1986 and branded as "The Singleton" and in 1997 the distillery became part of Diageo after a merger.
